Women Who Whiskey Invite You for a Drink
Attend a Women Who Whiskey (wWw) event and you may get a chance to sip grain whiskey, discuss blended brands, ponder the optimal ice shape for chilling bourbon and definitely taste some specialty whiskey cocktails.
On Saturday, April 9 Women Who Whiskey officially launched their Florida chapter at the O Lounge on Las Olas. Jack Daniels sponsored the event with complimentary Gentlemen Jack cocktails and whiskey-infused sweets. New members mingled amidst wWw founder, Julia Toffolli.
Founded in New York City in 2011, Toffolli’s vision has expanded to allow wWw to open chapters in Portland, D.C., Twin Cities, Boston, L.A., Florida, Switzerland, Kenya, Canada and Australia. Plans to launch chapters in San Francisca, Korea, London, Hong Kong, Atlanta, Austin, Detroit and Argentina are in the near future.
Kyle Rivera is a “Boozy Foodie†for Breakthru Beverage in Orlando and the wWw Florida Chapter President. Her general expertise on spirits and knowledge of the whiskey craft makes Rivera the ideal liaison for introducing members to flavor profiles, types of whiskeys, brand history and food pairings. Rivera emphasized that at least 37 percent of whiskey drinkers are women. Women Who Whiskey seems to reach this broad niche.
Membership in the group allows women to be immersed in the whiskey culture. Even though it is a social networking group, there will also be educational opportunities like whiskey tastings. They are also involved in community outreach efforts and different causes, such as autism awareness, pet rescue and the March of Dimes. According to Florida Chapter Vice President Cindy Sepulveda, “Bourbon and Beauty†will be the theme for the next event. Guests will be asked to donate beauty and hygiene products to be given to women in need. “Everything has a whiskey undertone to it,” said Sepulveda.
This baby chapter has plans to expand quickly and already has a wait list for sponsors who are eager to become involved in wWw events in Florida. Though it is a women-focused group, if you are over 21 and love whiskey, wWw plans to host occasional events in which they extend invitations to gentlemen and family. Women Who Whiskey shoots down the mindset that whiskey should be attached to a gender bias.
Why go? Complimentary premium whiskey-based cocktails. Quality food and upscale settings. Fundraising and networking opportunities. No fees. No obligations to attend. Did I mention complimentary premium whiskey-based cocktails?
