BACARDI and Major Lazer kicked-off Memorial Day weekend and set the summer free with a private Sound of Rum event and concert on the shores of BACARDI Bay. BACARDI harnessed its Caribbean roots and brought together a diverse mix of reggae, dance-hall, soca, hip-hop and electronic music alongside four island-inspired pop-up restaurants from across the globe. The concert night kicked off with a performance by Norwegian DJ, Cashmere Cat. Followed by an energized performance by Major Lazer trio made up of producer extraordinaire Diplo, plus Trinidadian DJ/producer Jillionaire and MC/DJ Washly Fire, as they debut their Limited Edition Rum, featuring a special appearance by Camila Cabello.
Guests enjoyed island-inspired rum cocktails and food from a plethora of island-themed pop-up restaurants. Pearl’s, a New York-based Trinidadian restaurant, of which Jillionaire is part owner, served traditional Trinidadian bites against a Calypso soundtrack. Truck Stop, hosted by Uncle Omar who is a partner at Susies Bakery in Jamaica and main promoter of Mojito Mondays, served up authentic Jamaican fare. Chef Creole, hosted by Chef “Ken” Sejour Wilkinson, served up traditional Haitian seafood bites. La Factoria, a San Juan favorite gastropub, helped usher in a new era of Puerto Rican mixology – offering regional culinary delights.
BACARDI and Major Lazer will continue activating The Sound of Rum – a collective, creative partnership between the brand and the music trio – throughout the summer with a slate of dynamic events and multimedia experiences. #SoundOfRum
