As part of the international conference “MODALITIES OF ENGAGEMENT AND DESIRE: AROUND ABDELLAH TAIA” (April 3-4, 2014), Abdellah Taia’s film SALVATION ARMY will be screened on the U.M. campus at the Cosford Cinema (Memorial Building 2d floor), on Thursday April 3, 2014, AT 7:00 P.M. (in Darija and French, with English subtitles). SALVATION ARMY is the first gay themed autobiographically inspired movie ever filmed in a Arab-Muslim country by an Arab-Muslim director. The camera director is no less than Agnes Godard. The film has been selected by the Venice and Toronto festivals, and it has been awarded the Grand Prix of the First Films European Festival. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session with ABDELLAH TAIA, moderated by Chrissy Arce (University of Miami) and with the participation of William Rothman (University of Miami), Nadra Hebouche (Franklin and Marshall College), Jose Villar Portela (Florida University), and Ralph Heyndels (University of Miami).
