Jeffrey Deitch, who curated the exhibition “The Painting Factory” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2012, will discuss how a group of artists have advanced the tradition of abstract painting. They incorporate contemporary image-making technology, a performative approach, and a sensitivity to the social context. The talk will focus on the innovations and influence of Andy Warhol, Rudolf Stingel, Christopher Wool, Mark Bradford, Wade Guyton, Josh Smith, Tauba Auerbach and others on recent abstract painting.

Jeffrey Deitch has been involved with modern and contemporary art for more than forty years as an artist, writer, curator, dealer, and advisor. Recently, Deitch served as Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles for 3 years. Prior to that, he operated Deitch Projects, a unique, private institution that presented over 250 artists projects from 33 countries from 1996 to 2010. Currently, Jeffrey Deitch is based in New York and is working on historical and contemporary exhibition projects.

This lecture is the first in a series that will be presented by the de la Cruz Collection and the Miami Design District. Light fare and refreshments will be served at 6:30pm. Talk will begin promptly at 8:00pm
