Blue Bottle Coffee invites the community to an exclusive Coffee cherry tasting. Coffee cherry is an overlooked ingredient (and typically a coffee waste product) that has a beautiful tart and citric character. Called cascara, meaning “husk” in Spanish, the coffee cherry gives baristas and chefs an opportunity to reconsider coffee as a not only a bean, but also an ingredient with myriad culinary possibilities. Guests will sample Cold Brew (a drink made from the coffee bean) and Cascara Fizz (a drink made from the coffee cherry) side by side. Bianco Gelato is dreaming up Cascara popsicles, and there will be activities for the whole family.
Blue Bottle Coffee was founded by James Freeman in Oakland, California, in 2002. A self-declared coffee lunatic, James hand-roasted beans in a 183 square-foot potting shed and then delivered them to friends from his Peugeot wagon. Fifteen years later, Blue Bottle is now a small but mighty network of cafes in eight cities in the United States and Japan. Improbably and delightfully, the company continues to grow, but remains united by the simple purpose of sourcing and roasting the world’s best, most sustainable coffees and serving them at peak deliciousness. @bluebottleroast
