Jai-Alai Books and Bookleggers: A Mobile Library celebrate the return of Miami Book Fair International with a party at Calle Ocho’s Ball and Chain. From 7 to 8 p.m., drink “jai-alai-themed” cocktails, sample the bar’s Cuban tapas menu, and get a free book from “Libroleggers,” the bilingual version of Bookleggers. At 8 p.m., Jai-Alai Books releases two new books of poetry, each one printed, edited, and translated here in Miami. Last Night I Dreamt I Was a DJ (Jai-Alai Books, 2014) is the first collection to be published in America by the Dominican poet Frank Báez. Suicide by Jaguar (Jai-Alai Books, 2014) is the debut collection by comic book artist Dave Landsberger. Both books are presented in an experimental, bilingual format designed by Seth Labenz. Báez and Landsberger will read their poems – and each other’s poems. Jai-Alai Books will give away exclusive swag, and we’ll enjoy an evening at one of Little Havana’s most historic watering holes.
