Painting with a Twist in Miami Beach is hosting a Painting Party Fundraiser for Occasional Closet. Artist David Sexton will be guiding the painting of the Peacock Tree during one of their “Painting with a Purpose” events.
“The Peacock Tree painting is about beauty, showing off and getting dressed up,” said Sexton. As the proud features of peacock are highlighted, it is the perfect painting for an Occasional Closet benefit.
This organization assists select Miami Beach High students with the premium cost of attending their senior prom. “The average cost of is $1000 – $1500 per child,” said Occasional Closet founder Myra Martinez. Last year they even styled the Prom King!
Donations are taken on the website in a crowdfunding fashion. Businesses have also donated services to fund the complete prom experience. Occasional Closet seeks local businesses interested in becoming involved. As the program grows they will expand the number of eligible and deserving students who receive assistance. “We hope to work with other schools as we are able to get more funding and assistance,” said Martinez.
This program allows recipients to attend a once-in-a-lifetime event that they otherwise would have not been able to experience, asking them only to pay forward the generosity they received. Recipients are referred to as STARS, Seniors That Are Raising Standards. Martinez mentors them and emphasizes the importance of social skills.
Painting with a Twist classes are open to anyone who enjoys being creative. Tickets are $35 per person.
