A new exhibition, Weavers’ Stories will open at the Lowe Art Museum at University of Miami. Visit weavers and batik makers from eight sites in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and East Timor through a collection of videos that include footage of daily life, detailed looks at weaving and dyeing techniques and unique celebrations. Textiles created by the featured weavers and batik makers accompany each video. Learn what motivates these remarkable women to create new patterns and how they adjust to changing social and economic situations. Roy W. Hamilton, Curator, will present “Weavers’ Stories: Behind the Scenes” at 6:30, followed by the Opening Reception from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
