Freehold Miami bravely opened in December, right in the midst of the pandemic. Located in the heart of Wynwood, this cool new venue is now finding its legs and quickly becoming a new dining destination, judging from the groups of people meandering in as early as 6:30 PM. The location encompasses three bars, a café, courtyard dining area, an event space, and a stage with a DJ booth which starts to pump up the music at 9:00 PM. It’s then that the place morphs into a laid-back, lounge-y, clubby space to hang with friends, judging by diverse groups enjoying each other’s company and their newfound freedom. We arrived at 6:30 and though it was early, were warmly welcomed. The warm spirit continued throughout the evening thanks to our server, Chris, and GM Zak, who was overseeing things and assuring the evening went smoothly.
We were there for their popular “Oysters and Champagne Night,” which didn’t disappoint — the oysters were bracingly fresh and paired perfectly with the bubbly! And the pizza! To our surprise (and delight), their signature New York-style pizza was exactly as we remembered from our NYC days, which we had never been quite able to find in Miami. But no wonder, the circa-1970s NYC-vibe pizza shop was developed in partnership with international pizza czar, Anthony Falco, famously known for creating Roberta’s (located in Brooklyn, NY) a renowned, Neapolitan-style pizza. The owners, Freehold Hospitality Group, also own Freehold in the Park on Manhattan’s Union Square, and Freehold Brooklyn on the south side of Williamsburg.
