Hialeah Unveils The Leah Arts District #HIALEAHNOW

Hialeah Unveils The Leah Arts District #HIALEAHNOWSunday, May 17, 4pm-8pm - 1501 East 10th Avenue, Hialeah

The Leah Arts District to be unveiled on Sunday, May 17 with free block party featuring murals by acclaimed artists, live art, music, food trucks and community. The second largest city in Miami-Dade County, the city of Hialeah, is pleased to announce the unveiling of the Leah Arts District. This unveiling will be set off by #HIALEAHNOW; an event being dubbed as the introduction to this new area in Hialeah which now allows artist live/work spaces in addition to its existing uses. This area has long been familiar to South Florida creatives who have come into this part of Hialeah to visit its thrift stores. It will now serve as a viable option for artists looking for an affordable, safe, and centrally located area to have their galleries and workshops. The Leah Arts District also allows them the option of setting up living quarters.

The Leah Arts District is the vision of Councilman Paul B. Hernandez, who sponsored the ordinance that established the Artist Live/Work Overlay District. The resolution, adopted in December of 2013, establishes the boundaries for the Leah Arts District as East 9th street to East 17th St as its southern and northern boundaries and East 10th avenue to the railroad tracks as its eastern and western boundaries. The ordinance gained the unanimous consent of the City Council and was ratified by the Mayor. Since that time, Councilman Hernandez has been promoting the area as a viable creative corridor and introducing it as a place for artists to call home. Free and open to the public, free parking. @leahartsdistrict
