Barry University celebrated its 75th Anniversary with a star-studded Birthday Bash, sponsored by Bank of American, which is also helping raise money for the university’s future and continued growth. Hosted by Dr. Shaquille O’Neal, Barry alumnus and NBA legend, guests stepped back in time as Soho Studios in Wynwood was transformed into “Club Barry” – supper club evoking the days of Barry University’s founding in 1940. Miami’s own Grammy award-winner Betty Wright produce an evening full of entertainment that transported guests musically from 1940 to today. Guests enjoyed cocktails, dinner, and dancing, along with a performance by Grammy award-winner Wyclef Jean.
Founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sister, with a dream of bringing affordable quality higher education to women. What began as a small all-women’s college, today Barry offers more than 80 undergraduate and more than 75 graduate programs in the arts, sciences, education, business, medicine and law with more than 2,000 students graduating each year and over 60,000 alums throughout the world.
Since its founding, Barry has educated students who have excelled in their professions and communities. Notable alumni include Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez; Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools Alberto Carvalho; Bahamian Senator, the Honorable Allyson Maynard Gibson; Barry president, Sister Linda Bevilacqua; and basketball legend Dr. Shaquille O’Neal.
