2nd Annual United Way Young Leaders’ B.Y.O.B. ‘Build Your Own Brunch’Saturday, September 19, 11am-2pm – InterContinental, 100 Chopin Plaza, Miami

United Way of Miami-Dade Young Leaders hosted 2nd annual interactive cooking and eating experience, Build Your Own Brunch (B.Y.O.B.), modeled after VeritageMiami’s wildly popular Interactive Dinner. Guests prepared a three-course brunch, under the tutelage of some of Miami’s most innovative young chefs, Brad Kilgore of Alter, Roel Alcudia of The Cypress Room and William Crandall of Izzy’s Fish and Oyster. Miami Herald food editor and also Young Leaders member, Evan Benn, hosted the cooking extravaganza. Lyn Farmer, the longtime director of VeritageMiami, and James Beard Award-winning wine and food writer, served as the event auctioneer.

Aside from the food, unlimited beer, wine, spirits and cocktails were provided by sponsors Zonin, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Rhum Barbancourt, and Wynwood Brewing Company. Attendees were helped by Johnson & Wales culinary students, who serve as sous-chefs and sommeliers, while the chefs lead through each course. The menu consisted of Bacalao and Pipered Omelet with Cherry Tomatoes & Lettuce by Chef Roel Alcudia; Pepercorn Glazed Brisket with Sourdough Crisp, Tuscan Kale Slow & Honeycrisp Apple by Chef Brad Kilgore; and Izzy’s Lemon Tart by Chef William Crandall. In between courses, guests enjoyed a brief live auctions, featuring exclusive foodie items and experiences. All event proceeds will benefit United Way of Miami-Dade‘s work to strengthen families through education, financial stability and health. #UWYLBrunch #YoungLeadersMiami @UnitedWayMiami
