Voices For Children Foundation, a Miami not-for-profit organization advocating for children in foster care, and presenting sponsor Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson P.A., will serve as hosts to approximately 400 attorneys, judges, elected officials, community leaders, volunteers and supporters at the 21st annual â€œBe A Voiceâ€ Awards Luncheon.Â Local news anchor Laurie Jennings will serve as the emcee.Â Voices For Children Foundation works to ensure that abused, abandoned and neglected children in Miami-Dade County each have a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem and that financial assistance and other resources are available for their health, educational and social needs.
Abigail Price-Williams, Miami-Dade County Attorney, will be honored with the Voices For Children Advocate Award for her tireless efforts on behalf of the foundation. For many years, she served as a Guardian ad Litem volunteer and was named the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida Guardian ad Litem Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. She is also the first woman and the first African-American to serve as Miami-Dadeâ€™s County Attorney.Â John Lopez, a young man who aged out of foster care and recently graduated with a bachelorâ€™s degree in Fine Arts Graphic Design from the University of Florida â€“ New World School of the Arts, will be honored with the Path Finder Award.
