The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce “Sand In My Shoes” award is given to outstanding community leaders who have made significant contributions to the South Florida region, demonstrating through their involvement, love and dedication to our community as the best possible place in which to live and work.
The 2016 Sand In My Shoes AwardÂ® honored Dr. Phillip and Patricia Frost. Dr. Frost came to Miami to join the faculty of the University of Miami while Patricia took a position at the Florida Desegregation Center, helping integrate the public schools in Overtown. He went on to Mount Sinai Medical Center on Miami Beach as head of the new department of dermatology, and bought businesses and founded others. Patricia dedicated three decades to work in education, spending 28 years as a teacher and principal in the Miami-Dade County Public School System.
