More than 400 business and community leaders will attend the MCCJ 2016 Humanitarian Awards Dinner where five noted community leaders will be presented with the prestigious Silver Medallion award. The honorees have diverse backgrounds but share a common thread: extraordinary humanitarian work in the community that mirrors MCCJ’s mission of fostering an inclusive community. Since the Humanitarian Awards Dinner was established in 1946, it has united the community in celebration of Miami’s diversity, in appreciation of those who have helped to build a more welcoming, inclusive, just and cooperative society. This year, Calvin Hughes from WPLG Local 10 serves as host along with dinner chair Jaret L. Davis from Greenburg Traurig and honorary chairs Helen Aguirre-Ferre, Bill Diggs, and John Kozyak.
The 2016 Silver Medallion recipients are: Brian L. Bilzin, founding partner at Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod; Kimberly Green, president of Green Family Foundation; Roberto Martinez, partner at Colson Hicks Edison; and Detra Shaw-Wilder, managing partner at Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton. The 2016 Clergy Medallion will go to The Venerable Canon Dr. Jean Fritz Bazin. The black-tie optional event, which this year is themed “Building Bridges, Connecting Communities,” includes a reception, seated dinner and after-party with champagne, coffee, and chocolate.
