Internationally renowned opera director and genre-defying multimedia mastermind Jay Scheib is bringing a modern-day version of the classic Bizet Opera, Carmen, to YoungArts. Scheib, a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow and OBIE award-winning director, will work alongside a talented cast of YoungArts alumni to present this multi-dimensional world premiere. Part film, part theater, Scheib’s Carmen includes five interactive vignettes that will be woven together in a live screening on the YoungArts Plaza, where audiences will be greeted with Cuban cigar rollers, rum punch and flamenco dancers. This immersive new media experience is site-specific and uniquely Miami, bringing together cutting edge technology alongside the groundbreaking and once-controversial opera about the most famous temptress of the stage. National YoungArts Foundation identifies and nurtures the most accomplished young artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts and assists them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development. YoungArts aspires to create a community of alumni that provides a lifetime of encouragement, opportunity and support.
