Give Back Getaway at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort LauderdaleFriday, October 14, 8:15am-1pm – John U. Lloyd State Park, 6503 N Ocean Drive, Dania Beach

The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale launches its first Give Back Getaways® at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park. The voluntourism program offers guests an exceptional opportunity to combine volunteer work with travel to help protect Florida’s beautiful coastline in a way that is meaningful to them, the environment and local inhabitants.
The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale invites guests to sink their feet into the sand at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park and learn how they can help protect the nearby neighboring coastline and habitat. A half day event leads guests to understanding Florida’s native settlers, the evolution of its coastlines, and the impact of industrialization, pollution and waste on the Gold Coast’s beautiful beaches. Native plants, fossilized animals and other key elements of the habitat’s natural ecosystem are presented by a local park ranger, creating awareness and promoting an in-depth understanding of “The Real Florida.” Handed a bag of sea oats, guests walk down to the beach and begin planting them by the shoreline. In time the sea oats will grow and push their roots further into the sand, holding the shoreline together and preventing future erosion. A boxed lunch, prepared by Ritz-Carlton chefs, is provided to enjoy the oceanfront after their environmental contribution.
Roundtrip transportation from The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale provided by the hotel. Available for Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale guests only and advance reservations required by October 3, 2011.
