Marking a first for Miami, the debut of The Miami & The Beaches Environmental Film Festival will focus on environmental issues. Featured will be the World Premiere of My Father, the Captain: My Life with Jacques Cousteau, presented by his son, Jean-Michel Cousteau, being screened for a VIP audience of environmental media in town for the Society of Environmental Journalists Conference. The festival will also showcase the launch of a new environmental student film competition, and a series of award-winning films on everything from electric cars to bees. The Festival opens at the Colony on Thursday; hosts the VIP event and a public screening at the New World Center on Friday; and holds screenings Friday – Sunday at Miami Beach Cinematheque. Student Film Competition and SoundScape screening at New World Center are free; all other public screenings are $10 each.  Tickets: 305-534-3825
