Zacapa Rum hosted Darkness Illuminated: the official launch of a new edition to their family of Zacapa rums, Zacapa Edición Negra. Guests joined Zacapa Master Blender Lorena Vasquez, and renowned Chef Francis Mallmann of Los Fuegos to celebrate the art of true craftsmanship and the beauty of patience, richness and quality it creates.
Guests were transported to an outdoor oasis with lush gardens, sparkling trees, and an unparalleled culinary experience as Argentine grill-master Chef Francis Mallmann interpreted the flavors of Zacapa Edición Negra through his signature culinary craft using wood and fire, paired with perfectly crafted Zacapa Edición Negra cocktails like, Negra Old Fashioned, Smoked Manhattan, Sweet Symphony, and Mai Tai. The Los Fuegos menu options included, Wood Oven Empanadas, Pear “a la sal” Salad, and Yellowfin Tuna Tartare as starters. Delicious main dishes included, Prime Angus Ribeye, Organic Chicken, Salt Crusted Salmon, Chorizo and Morcilla, followed by Zacapa rum flambe pineapple, and dulce de leche crepes with rum ice-cream as dessert.
Zacapa Edición Negra is rum inspired by traditional Mayan rituals, and the dark fire of Guatemala’s volcanoes. The smoky intensity and accentuated wood and spicy notes of slow-aged Zacapa Edición Negra are crafted through a second season of aging in American oak casks that are intensely charred while the wood is still coated with Zacapa rum. Each aspect of production has taken place under the watchful eye of Zacapa Master Blender Lorena Vasquez, who is renowned for creating rums that are bold in character, appearance and flavour.
