Feeding South Florida® (FSF), the leading domestic hunger-relief organization serving South Florida, is celebrating its new food pantry in the City of North Miami with a special opening event. FSF worked with the City of North Miami to open the food pantry ― an example of how municipalities can create food access in their communities. This is the first FSF city pantry, and the first time FSF has worked with a municipality in this manner, thanks to the generosity of the Florida Blue Foundation.
The City of North Miami has dedicated a space for the pantry in the Sunkist Grove Community Center. The State of Florida donated $50,000 for this pantry. Florida Blue Foundation has committed to donate $200,000 to the pantry each year, for two years. Florida Blue Foundation’s donation will also support a community needs assessment and provide wrap-around services such as SNAP, TCA and Medicaid application assistance as well as nutrition classes.
The pantry will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. by appointment only. It will provide fresh nutritious fruits and vegetables, protein, dairy and shelf-stable items in addition to health and beauty items such as diapers and personal hygiene items. #NorthMiami #NoMiNews @NoMiNews
