Surf’s up on South Beach, as vivacious celebrity Chef Anne Burrell of the hit Food Network series ‘Worst Cooks in America’ hosts an evening of Polynesian flare, with Hawaiian-inspired bites and tiki-inspired cocktails from across the country. Guests enjoyed an artful display of libations and bites around the pool at the trendy Surfcomber boutique hotel. Chef Burrell rounded up some of the best bartenders from highly regarded tiki-inspired joints across the country as they compete to be crowned tiki-King at the end of the night. She joined an esteemed panel of judges, to evaluate the contestants’ rum-centric offerings. Guests also enjoyed discovering the bright flavors of Hawaiian cuisine while savoring bites from some of South Florida’s most buzzed about spots. From Don the Beachcomber (both the man and the restaurant) to Trader Vic’s to every place and symbol in between, tiki is more than a drink, it’s a subculture enjoying a resurgence in popularity with bartenders across America and we’re bringing it back to the beach – to South Beach.
