The Wolfsonian–FIU presnets PosterFest: Design for Good, a FREE one-day tribute to the medium at the nexus of art and advocacy! Co-presented with AIGA Miami and Adobe Creative Jams on April 21, 2018, the festival is a follow-up to last year’s RadioFest and serves to engage South Floridians about this pervasive, versatile art form as well as challenge designers to wield their artistic skills for positive social change.
The day’s festivities include a pop-up installation of work by finalists of AIGA Miami’s poster-making design competition inspired by the mission of Lotus House, a Miami shelter for homeless women and children. Each poster confronts stigma and misunderstanding surrounding the issue of homelessness and educates about the day-to-day realities homeless women face. Offering an historical counterpoint to the contemporary work will be two major exhibitions dedicated to the subject of groundbreaking poster design: Posters for a Modern Age, presenting the work of 20th-century artist Julius Klinger, and Constructing Revolution, Bowdoin College’s thoughtful take on Soviet propaganda posters. There will also be opportunities to engage with traditional printmaking techniques through hands-on interactives, and a chance for designers to have their portfolio of work reviewed by industry leaders. Finally, PosterFest-goers will watch artists at work and see them present their designs at a special Adobe Creative Jam taking place within the fest. #PosterFest @wolfsonian
