A community-organized poetry festival celebrating legendary poets from the Black Arts Movement. The event will showcase poetry readings, conversation, live art and music, and includes a variety of activations, artistic installations and experiences. An open mic, local food and craft vendors, youth activities, and live performances are also planned, all to celebrate artistic expression. Featuring the renowned Sonia Sanchez, The Last Poets, Emory Douglas, Ntozake Shange, rapper Vic Mensa, soul singer Jamila Woods, and more. Maroon Poetry Festival is a product of Voices: Poetry for the People Workshop Series, a collaboration between poet and educator Aja Monet and Community Justice Project. Sponsored by Knight Foundation, Alacran Foundation, Community Justice Project, Dream Defenders, The Betsy Hotel, Commissioner Keon Hardemon, City of Miami, Books & Books, Jack Daniels.
