City of North Miami Councilwoman Mary Estimé-Irvin, in partnership with Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava, will host her 3rd Annual Soup Joumou Celebration on Saturday, January 1st, 2022. The event will be hosted by Calvin Hughes, WPLG Local 10 News Anchor and Dr. Naomi Blemur, Co-Founder of Balancing Life, and held at the MOCA Plaza.

This New Year’s Day celebration will include the traditional soup joumou, entertainment and special performances by Haitian born-artist, Mikaben alongside internationally known singer, Lionel Benjamin and recording artist Porsha É. Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava will also be present to celebrate the occasion. Drinking soup joumou (pumpkin soup) is historically known as a Haitian New Year’s Day tradition. It dates back to January 1st, 1804 when the Haitian slaves declared Haiti’s independence from its French colonizers. To date, it is a form of celebrating Haiti’s liberation. #NorthMiami #NoMiNews @NoMiNews
