Dr. James Hicks will present Notes from London on Art/History, discussing what makes a city an art capital, sharing London’s long road to that distinction, and making connections with Miami. Dr. James Hicks is an art historian raised in central Virginia, now based in London. After graduating from James Madison University in 2001, Dr. Hicks continued his studies at the University of London and the University of Hertfordshire where he gained his Ph.D. His areas of interest and lecturing experience include British art history, European and American cultural history, and contemporary visual culture. He has worked extensively with leading London museums such as the Tate Modern, Tate Britain and the National Portrait Gallery, as well as at several American universities’ Semester in London programs and at Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
