Design Miami/ is the global forum for design. Each fair brings together the most influential collectors, gallerists, designers, curators and critics from around the world in celebration of design culture and commerce. Design Miami/ is more than a marketplace for design, where the world’s top galleries gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of twentieth and twenty-first century furniture, lighting and objets d’art. Each show balances exclusive commercial opportunities with progressive cultural programming, creating exciting collaborations with designers and design institutions, panels and lectures with luminaries from the worlds of design, architecture, art and fashion, and unique commissions from the world’s top emerging and established designers and architects.
This year, Louis Vuitton is back with their ever popular Objets Nomades collection, an ever-expanding collection of limited edition, collectible furniture inspired by the House’s historic Art of Travel campaign. The interwoven nature of Louis Vuitton’s savoir-faire with the discerning eye of renowned designers has created inventive shapes, materials, and products—a tradition that continues with the Objets Nomades. Pieces from the Objets Nomades collection have been imagined by some of the most creative designers of our times: Atelier Oï, Maarten Baas, Barber and Osgerby, Fernando and Humberto Campana, Damien Langlois-Meurinne, Raw Edges, Patricia Urquiola, Marcel Wanders, Tokujin Yoshioka, nendo, Gwenaël Nicolas, India Mahdavi, and André Fu. Additionally, there are new designs that will be showcased as well which include Ribbon Dance by André Fu, Cocoon Fur by Campana Brothers and Blossom Vase by Tokujin Yoshioka. Louis Vuitton Les Petits Nomades consists of a new innovative and inventive collection of decorative objects from some of Objets Nomades’ designers. These smaller-scale objects are functional and beautiful interpretations of the house’s world of refined and inspiring design. With their mutual sense of intuitiveness, desirability and pleasure, the Objets Nomades collections continue Louis Vuitton’s tradition of offering inspiring and surprising designs, anchored in evolving visions of travel. Both Objets Nomades and Les Petits Nomades will also be showcased at Louis Vuitton’s store at the Miami Design District in addition to the Design Miami Tent.
Elevating mechanical luxury to an art form, Grand Seiko presents its inaugural “Flow of Time” exhibition at Design Miami/ 2018. The highly anticipated, experiential display will showcase an installation featuring Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive movement – the company’s unique and innovative mechanism characterized by high precision. As the embodiment of Japanese aesthetics and master artisanal techniques, Spring Drive is praised for its inimitable signature of the perfect glide motion second hand, reflecting the natural and continuous flow of time. Renowned Japanese artists TAKT PROJECT / and Shingo Abe have teamed up to express the essence of Grand Seiko through an immersive exhibit that invites guests to experience and explore luxury timepieces in a unprecedented way as this visual work showcases the contrast between the “ticking” and “flowing” of time.
Lexus as the new official automotive partner for Design Miami/ 2018. In an effort to create a better world through design, Lexus will be unveiling a one-of-a-kind concept vehicle, the LF-1 Limitless, as part of “The Future is Limitless” installation, designed by Japanese architect Socha Ichikawa of dNA (double Negatives Architecture). LF-1 Limitless combines high performance with unrestrained luxury and showcases technology, innovation and the latest evolution of design at Lexus — which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2019. #DesignMiami @DesignMiami
