PRESENCIA is a project of 13 artists from Puerto Rico who will present their works at Canvas Miami Gallery during Miami Art Week 2018 and Art Basel. Artists in Puerto Rico have been overcoming the most significant challenges of recent decades, particularly the social and economic impact caused by Hurricane Maria. Artists are part of the diaspora, which is not mentioned in the news, nor are they mentioned in the statistics of emigrant professionals. Presencia is a voice declaring the existence of these artists, representing the high level of plastic expression that Puerto Rico produces, both in the national space and in the continental and world. The artists are united by their workshop, which has been the passport to a shelter, a space, a center, a support where they have been able to manifest, produce and build their works of art. The workshop allows them to let the energy flow and keep them active, detoxified from a negative environment or to take as inspiration or motivation the challenges of the economic crisis, the impact of the natural elements and the fiscal decisions of the country. It is the workshop, within all its definitions, the passport to enter an anti-inertia space, and with the work created to make PResence. The project is dedicated to the master artists Rafael Rivera Rosa and Edwin Mauras. Two opening and welcome cocktails will be offered on Tuesday, December 4 and Friday, December 7, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., the exhibition will remain until Saturday, January 5, 2019.
