Café Prima Pasta has added some new additions to their menu. New chef, Carlos Belon joins executive chef Papa Arturo in the kitchen. Gluten free pastas and vegetarian options have been added to the menu. Café Prima Pasta has launched its own private label of imported extra virgin olive oil and red and white wines.
Prima Pasta is located in the North Beach neighborhood on 71 Street, and has been there for 19 years. It is a very cozy atmosphere with bottles of wine ringing the ceiling, signed pictures on the walls of the numerous celebrity friends and candlelit dining rooms with crystal chandeliers and a bar with copper and mahogany wood along with alfresco dining on a terrace.
The evening started with a complimentary Bellini with fresh peach puree upon arrival. New appetizer item Polpo alla Toscana ($12.95) was very tender octopus, roasted potatoes, cannellini beans in white wine. Also a new menu item and made-to-order Fiocchi Rapera ($18.95), ravioli stuffed with cheese and pear, topped with roasted prosciutto in a truffle sauce, the contrast was interesting and unexpected. Branzino alla Caccia ($23.95), baked fish with calamata olives, capers and white wine. The all-time menu favorites are still available, like Polpette & Ricotta ($12.95), meatballs with marinara sauce and fresh ricotta; or Crab Raviolotti ($18.95) pasta filled with crabmeat in a creamy lobster sauce.
For dessert, we tried their mother, Carla’s authentic desserts which are created fresh daily, Tiramisu, Chocolate Soufflé cake, Cheesecake and extra Profiteroles, since we never see those anywhere! Dessert menu additions include an array of homemade Italian Sorbets ($7.95) scooped into pieces of fresh fruit and fresh squeezed, made-to-order juices in an assortment of tropical flavors and blends that can be added to a signature cocktail.
The full bar features signature cocktails made with premium, top shelf alcohol, signature house blended Italian wines and ice cold Peroni Nastro Azzurro served on draft from 5p.m. to 8p.m. Monday through Thursday for $2. Café Prima Pasta is open Tuesday through Saturday for dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and dinner on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. For reservations for parties of six or more, please call 305-867-0106.
