The Education Fund’s For the Love of Art Charity Auction 2012

The Education Fund Charity Art AuctionThursday, May 24, 6-10pm – The Moore Building, 400 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami Design District

The Education Fund’s annual charity auction, “The Art of Found Objects,” showcased more than 200 one-of-a-kind pieces of art work created by Miami-Dade County public school students and teachers representing nearly 50 schools. Each year, this exclusive event combines the power of imagination with the ultimate recycling program. The art work is crafted from materials provided by the Education Fund’s Ocean Bank Center for Educational Materials, a warehouse stocked with donated supplies where local public school teachers can shop for free. In addition to the silent auction, the event featured live music, an open bar by Bacardi, an epicurean feast, as well as bids on special items and luxury vacation packages. 20 extraordinary community leaders who graduated from Miami-Dade County public schools were honored at the event. The evening Emcee was Jawan Strader from CBS4 and winner of the surprise first annual award “Award of Distinction” for excellence in media coverage of public education. The annual charity event supports and raises funds for The Education Fund, which has acted on the belief that the quality of public schools must be the top priority for our community. Working side-by-side with the private sector for 26 years, The Education Fund has raised more than $39 million to support and improve public schools with an emphasis on designing and implementing innovative initiatives. The goal is to ensure that every child learns and succeeds. Last year, “The Art of Found Objects” event raised more than $80,000 in support of visual arts education in county public schools.
