More than 400 influential business men and women will gather at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on September 28th to take part in the 7th Annual Go Red For Women Celebration Luncheon & Love Your Heart Workshops. Guests will learn about heart disease and support the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement, a campaign to raise awareness about heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women. This event will empower women and men alike to take charge of their heart and in turn, lead longer, stronger lives. Heart disease affects one in every three women across the United States. However, only one in five women believes that heart disease is her greatest health threat. The celebration includes educational workshops and an interactive boutique by local sponsors starting at 10 a.m., followed by a heart-healthy luncheon at noon. This year’s theme is “Extinguish Heart Disease†because that’s exactly what supporting the American Heart Association will do – eliminate the nation’s biggest threat. Firefighters from the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department and the South Florida Firefighter’s Calendar, a local charity, will be in attendance to help drive the association’s mission. Some of the men will be handing out special edition calendars and taking photos with guests. Lon Rosen, one of the firefighters in the calendar, is personally affected by heart disease. His daughter was born with a congenital heart defect. Lon will be sharing his story with the media during the event. Shannon Hori, CBS4 anchor, will emcee the event and also share her story about how her son was born with heart problems and had to have open heart surgery just two days after birth. A survivor and national spokesperson for the organization will be telling her story in hopes of inspiring others to take simple steps to better their heart health. The association encourages all women to take charge of their own heart health by visiting their doctor and knowing their numbers. Blood pressure, cholesterol and other numbers can be improved by making lifestyle changes, resulting in healthier lives. Tickets to the event are $125 per person.
