The Art of Cobra Opening Reception

The Art of Cobra Opening ReceptionSaturday, July 8, 6pm-8pm – NSU Art Museum, 1 E Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale

Cobra, the European avant-garde movement named after its home cities of Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam, caused a revolution in modern art during just three years of creative activity (1948-1951), and continues to influence artists working today. Featuring works from NSU Art Museum’s celebrated Golda and Meyer Marks Cobra Collection, the largest Cobra collection in America, this new exhibition explores the innovative use of animal imagery by Cobra artists including Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Asger Jorn and others. On view July 9 – October 8, 2017. Human Animals: The Art of Cobra is organized by NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale and guest curated by Karen Kurczynski, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where the exhibition had its premiere at the University Museum of Contemporary Art from September through November 2016. @nsuartmuseum
