All About Graphic Design: Steven Heller and Louise Fili

All About Graphic Design Steven Heller and Louise FiliFriday, March 22, 7:00pm-9:00pm – Wolfsonian-FIU, 1001 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach

Co-presented with AIGA Miami (American Institute of Graphic Arts). Two respected graphic designers—Steven Heller and Louise Fili—talk about their latest books. Heller’s 100 Ideas that Changed Graphic Design tells the story of how ideas have influenced and defined graphic design and, in turn, how those ideas have manifested themselves in objects of design. The 100 entries, arranged broadly in chronological order, range from technical (overprinting, rub-on designs, and split fountain for example) to stylistic (swashes on caps, loud typography, and white space). They also include graphic design objects (such as dust jackets and design handbooks) and methods (paper cut-outs and pixelation). Fili’s book Elegantissima is a monograph on her work since 1989 when she founded her own graphic design studio Louise Fili Ltd.—including books, food packaging, restaurants identities, and her reinterpretation of vintage sources and influences from Italy. Her typography, often hand drawn, helped advertise and market such well-known brands as Sarabeth’s, Bella Cucina, Jean-Georges, and Good Housekeeping, among many others. For more information, contact Wolfsonian public programs manager Carl Hildebrand at carl@thewolf.fiu.edu or 305-535-2644.  Reception provided by Apothic Wine. Free for AIGA Miami Chapter, Wolfsonian members and FIU community and  $10 for all others.
