uAspire Miami hosted its first Cap & Gown Gala at at The Raleigh Hotel’s iconic pool area, Chaired by Lucy Nunez with Debra Gauthier as Co-Chair. The uplifting celebration featured lavish silent auction, elegant cuisine by James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Schwartz, VIP Cabana seating and fun “Hats Off After Party” in the penthouse floor of The Raleigh Hotel.
The Cap & Gown Gala honored community leaders who are the first in their family to graduate from college. By publicly recognizing such “First Ones” and highlighting their impact in the community, uAspire hopes to raise awareness of the power of higher education and its ability to propel young people out of poverty as well as inspire the many thousands of young people in Miami who aspire to become First Ones themselves. Among those being honored this year were Jose Basulto, Deputy Mayor Russell Benford, Thomas M. Cornish and Norie del Valle.
The mission of uAspire (formerly known as ACCESS) is to ensure that all young people have the financial information and resources necessary to find an affordable path to – and through – post-secondary education. To accomplish this mission, uAspire partners with schools and community organizations to provide free financial aid advice and advocacy to young people and families to help them overcome the financial barriers to higher education.
