Stand Among Friends’ “Lights Out” event is a unique dining experience, also known as Dining in the Dark. Dining in the Dark is a phenomenon that developed in Europe over a decade ago to promote communication between people who are blind and sighted. This dining event allows people without disabilities to get a brief “taste” and a better understanding of what daily life is like for individuals with a visual impairments. “Lights Out” provides diners with the opportunity, in a controlled environment, to experience a gourmet meal while blindfolded. From getting to their seat, to dining and drinking, everyone has the opportunity to dine in the dark and live life as a person who is visually impaired for a few short hours. Lights Out” events are held at a selection of high-end restaurants in Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami Beach. For a fixed price, guests enjoy a meal at one of South Florida’s hippest restaurants, while having a fun and unique evening out with friends and family: all for a good cause! Celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month, this year’s “Lights Out” event will take place at Barcrudo, a quaint/hip raw food—fish bar located right in the heart of South Beach on Thursday, October 3rd at 7 pm.
