Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is holding a press conference on Jan. 31, 2017 at Miami’s EPIC Marina to announce the unveiling of the brand-new M/V John Paul DeJoria. The vessel is being named after longtime supporter and co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems salon products.
Sea Shepherd CEO Captain Paul Watson and DeJoria will participate in the press conference, which will begin at 11 a.m. at the Miami-based marina (250 Biscayne Blvd. Way) followed by a classic naval ceremony of breaking a bottle of champagne over the bow to invite good luck. Instead of the traditional champagne, however, a bottle of tequila from the DeJoria-owned Patron Spirits Co. will be used for the time-honored commemoration.
The unveiling of the new ship kicks off a five-day event of free pubic ship tours aboard the M/V John Paul DeJoria. Tours begin Tuesday the 31st from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will continue Wednesday, February 1st to Saturday, February 4th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Ship tours will be free and open to the public. In addition to providing tours of the vessel, the crew will share information about Sea Shepherd’s work to defend ocean wildlife and habitats worldwide and their first-hand experiences as crewmembers. Sea Shepherd merchandise will be available for sale and donations of funds, food and supplies from Sea Shepherd generous supporters will be accepted. #SeaShepherd @SeaShepherdSSCS
